I'm not an expert by any means, but I think that the jump in KLAC is due to more than reports that the semi industry has bottomed. The recent announcement of a new technology alliance between KLAC and Leica has strengthened this already-strong company's position and added a lot of future security to their position in the industry.

I'd like to see IBM or Intel make an attempt at getting a controlling interest in KLA Instruments, to corner the market on their productivity enhancement equipment... This would certainly put the far East microchip market at a disadvantage in the not too distant future, would it not, as they found it extremely expensive (or impossible) to obtain the latest and best equipment and technology that KLA has to offer..
