USA Engineer Seals Luxor's IBS 2000 Span Tables: Allowing Longer Spans While Increasing Floor Performance
Luxor Industrial Corporation is pleased to announce that Mr. Tee Pecora, a structural engineer, sealed Luxor's IBS 2000 Span Tables. This allows builders to achieve longer spans than are permissible in the Uniform Building Code of the United States. Span Tables were sealed for Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Earlier in 1998, Mr. Pecora was introduced to the patented IBS 2000 Load Sharing Floorsystem. After witnessing first hand the superior performance of the IBS 2000 in several homes in Maryland, Mr. Pecora traveled to Vancouver, Canada to visit Luxor's testing and manufacturing facilities. Following a review of Luxor's research and development data and based on his experience with the IBS2000 Load Sharing Floorsystem, Mr. Pecora sealed Span Tables for application with conventional lumber joists for use in the five jurisdictions in which he is licensed. When distribution is expanded, Luxor expects engineers in other jurisdictions to be equally supportive.
To date, the majority of sales of IBS 2000 in the United States have been for application with engineered I-joists. The IBS 2000 has been used in conjunction with conventional lumber joists, however, as Luxor's Span Tables exceed those allowed in the Building Codes, engineer's seals have been required for each application. The sealing of Luxor's Span Tables acts as a blanket approval. The Company expects that this will allow for a significant increase in sales based on positive feedback from the building industry on initial installations.
From the construction industry's perspective, the sealing of these tables will allow builders to increase spans; for example, a typical 2" x 10" joist @ 16 o/c increases from 15 feet 8 inches to over 17 feet when utilizing the IBS 2000 Load Sharing Floorsystem. In addition to the builder saving money in most cases, the performance of the floor will be increased substantially as these are vibration controlled spans. Lower construction costs and increased floor performance are proving to be a very marketable combination.
From a corporate perspective, the approval of these increased spans will assist Luxor's sales and marketing efforts in the United States. Following years of research and planning the IBS 2000 has reached the `end user' and is being met with the enthusiasm management expected. Setting up the distribution system has taken time. With the distribution system in place and with the assembly plant in Sunbury, Pennsylvania operational, the Company will continue to focus on `end user' sales. The Company expects to disseminate further sales information shortly.
