We could have had snake, but I wasn't fast enough.
Okay, and I didn't really want to catch it.

I went off into the cove on the tractor today in search of rocks.
There's tons of rocks here, but sometimes you want a particular
size and shape. So I drove and drove and they were too little,
too big, too round, too thin, too something not right. But finally
I found a few that were right. And I was almost good, checking
round for rattlers when I got off to pick one up, but I forgot
that you never know what's under a rock. So when I picked
one up, there it went, slithering away. I almost got excited, but
I'm too depressed for grand shows of emotion, so I just went "oops,
that was close," and took the rock and put it in the tractor bucket.

It was too little to feed one well, anyway, much less a crowd.
How bout pork & beans?
