Two types of people seek religion as an (illusory) answer:

1. Those that have been programmed it almost from birth (also known as brainwashing).

2. Those that feel helpless, lost, confused, betrayed, hurt, frightened, etc. -- in short, individuals who had no strong philosophy of life (or the morals and ethics which stemmed from it) already grounded in reality.

Unfortunately, the bulk of those living on earth today make up category #2.
