[Street Walkers Trading Machine...Compromises]

So I'll go with a PCI ethernet card 10B (either Intel of COM)..(unless I get the Asus P2B-L with ethernet built in.) and a hub.

What's your time frame? It used to be last week.

If the Ethernet card has to go in a PCI slot you will need a mobo with 5 PCI slots to make NT an option (unless AGP is an option in NT for four monitors, did you ask Matrox?) There are not many five PCI slot BX mobo's around.

BX over LX makes a lot of sense to me, Dave's points..upgrade potential and the RAM compatibility thing.

Will you be running the same applications on the new machine as you are running now? (two browsers, some Kill keys etc). Is the only difference the faster net connection and the network?

If everything is stable in your current configuration and you are not making a lot of changes it speaks well for Win98.

I have tried to move to NT several times because it is a better rated OS. If it doesn't do what you need it to do what good is it? You have more options with Win98. If multiple monitors is what you need Win98 makes sense to me. It is cheaper and allows you a better hardware selection. You can make use of the AGP slot which is the same as freeing up a PCI slot. You can get by with less RAM. There is a bigger selection of video cards. You can run them at different resolutions. Great for the 21 in monitor you will buy with your bigger trading profits:)

I would wait until June 25 as you will not have to deal with the beta version and then the upgrade. Perhaps by then the Asus board with onboard network interface will be available.

Asus BX board
Win98
128MB PC100 RAM
PII 233
plan on upgrading to the PII 400 and more RAM
At least one nice 2D video card
Wait til June 25
Awesome computers is a super deal if they do what you say

Just my thoughts
