Vulnerable Intel nytimes.com

Another compare and contrast piece on everybody's favorite monopolistic co-conspirators, this one by a CS oldtimer, Dave Patterson. The bio blurb at the end contains a classic "read what you have typoed", but this quote is more to the point.

Microsoft and Intel may rely on each other for their monopoly hold over the PC market, but the F.T.C and Justice Department cases are not so intertwined. The case against Microsoft is a broad attack on its anti-competitive selling strategies. In contrast, the case against Intel merely concerns sharing information with companies with whom it is involved in patent disputes. Before the F.T.C considers expanding its case against Intel, it should consider that Intel has plenty of problems on its plate.

Cheers, Dan.
