NeoMagic Combines Graphics On Single Chip

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Reuters) - NeoMagic says it has begun initial
deliveries of the first multimedia computer-accelerator that integrates
high-speed graphics, audio, video, and digital video playback capabilities
on a single chip.

NeoMagic said its MagicMedia 256AV, a 256-bit chip with over 21
million transistors, is the first of a new family of chips that are specifically
built to speed the graphics performance of the latest generation of
multimedia notebook PCs.

The chip provides the internal bandwidth to handle and convert data into
high-performance audio and high-resolution video, giving notebook
computer users many of the same powers found in high-performance
desktop computers, the company said.
