You paint a bleak, but possible scenario. IDT hopes that the 3DNow! improvements (2x on graphics) and improved general performance will be enough to stimulate market demand. The parts are said to compare (slightly surpass) the performance of AMD's K6+ 3DNow! and be superior to Intel's Celeron parts.

I think a lot depends on how much AMD pushes the 3DNow! brand recognition and how well the parts are reviewed. If the trade press is favorably impressed and they have 266 Mhz parts in quantity, then things will brighten up. IDTI says that the parts are 40% smaller than the K6+. I don't know how well they compare to the Celeron parts. The current generation of Celeron parts are not as high of performers as the K6 and certainly not the K6+ or WC 2. That will change quickly as Intel rolls out their new Cleron with integrated L2 cache.

No doubt about it, IDTI needs to perform quickly and with very little room for problems. They say that they are focused on getting the WC 2 ramped quickly and up to higher speed grades. A large part of the fate of the company hangs in the balance and investors will soon see if Perham and company have the right stuff or just pipe dreams.
