Jay,
I have visited the RosetteNet site and I'm trying to understand what effect ECOM Standards will eventually have on the projected growth of SCM companies like Manu and Itwo. Will a common international standard provide an opportunity for Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, etc. to provide clients with in the box programs that enable the operations in a similar way SCM software presently does? Obviously, there will always be specialized needs for SCM software, but will that custom market shrink if manufacturers, vendors, warehouses, transport companies and retailers can all use the internet to interface with each other via international ECOM Standards?
I have been trying to learn as much as possible about SCM applications for the past three months but with so little technical background my penetration is limited and so I may be off base with my take on the development of Ecom Standards in regards to SCM software. So much has been said about Oracle, Microsoft and SAP wanting in on the SCM market and how large this market will become. Is this their entry point? Why are there no SCM software companies on the Software Partners list of the RosettaNet?
You and Michelle Harris appear to have some technical knowledge of these products, so I am soliciting your opinions and those others who may have insight into these matters. Your comments would be appreciated.
Also, thanks for posting the information regarding Vastera. Maybe, it will all come to companies acquiring a software library with specialized programs custom to their needs, once they are able to communicate with everyone else via ECOM Standards. What will be left for SCM Software companies?
