Don't forget - when the patient (ALPHA) has been without oxygen (software support) for so long, the chances of permanent brain damage are real good. Rudedog has a good follow-up but let me add that Digital is adding 65 applications to the Alpha portfolio per week and has attained more than critical NT mass in the applications suited for Alpha, graphics, engineering, etc. Also, Compaq has maintained all along that Alpha is important and Digital execs mentioned it was what made Compaq go for Digital. Compaq will have a press conference on Friday after shareholders vote on Thursday. Compaq has big plans for Alpha, Merced's untimely delay helps a little more. By the way, if Merced is a year 2000 part ... why isn't it on any Intel fab schedule for year 2000? Rob
