CBS MarketWatch's Calandra on "NBC and Internet Company forge a tie"

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- "...For NBC, a just-announced pact with the Internet's CNET isÿ a concession that television networks need theÿ World Wide Web but don't know the first thing about getting there.

CNET's pact with NBC, meanwhile, comes just in time for Internet search engine stocks and content channels, whose stocks were looking fatigued after splendid gains..."The major media companies have proven almost ÿincompetent in dealing with the Internet," saidÿ Robertson Stephens analyst Keith Benjamin. "This is the first time we have a major media company saying, 'OK, we want onto the Internet, and we are going to let someone help us get there.'..We think the Internet is an important part of the media of the future," said NBC CEO and President Bob Wright.

NBC's purchase of a $26 million, 4.99 percent equity stake in CNET itself..."
