Posting under pseudonyms is a name in itself, reflecting what the writer wishes to be identified with. The name itself should not be vilified.

In so far as keeping the thread civil,... well, that could possibly be a good idea, should the participants follow the basic rules in debating the relevant issues at hand, instead of being sidetracked on the emotional ones.

Lets see who sticks to these rules regardless of what issues are being discussed.
