Here is more detail on Optical Networking and DWDM - specifically CSCO's white paper version. I recommend this for anyone struggling with the concepts today's MRVC announcement deal s with.

While not mentioned, I don't think CSCO's distance comes anywhere near
MRVC's 70 miles. I would like to know just what their limitation is - anyone?

There is a 5 phase chart embedded in this white paper. It looks to me like MRVC has just announced CSCO's phase 4 while CSCO is just now doing phase 2.

With OC-48 (2.5GB) and OC-192 (10GB) technologies coming online in 1999, MRVC is not only "right there" with the big boys - they are ahead.

While this will further fuel MRVC's growth, we need an alliance with somebody larger to get the street's attention. C'mon Dell or CPQ, lets do it. MRVC will provide all the enterprise networking to the desktop, and Dell or CPQ could sell the servers and workstations for a complete ultra high speed corporate networking solution. If we got an announcement like this we would be in the $30s within weeks. Or perhaps ASND picks us up to compete with CSCO in the LAN arena - not much overlap.

Yoo Hoo. Anyone awake out there in business land?

When you go to this link, be sure to click on the "more information on optical networking" link in the top of the white paper. There is a link to CSCO's April announcement which explains their five phases in more detail.
