Patent Investigation (Part 2)
As mentioned in the prior post, I have been attempting to research the patent issue further and have been assisted by numerous member of SI who are experts in patent law or patent research. My thanks to them.
I have tried to assemble the information from various sources in a logical manner. Any flaw in the presentation is my error and not the people who responded to me. BEGIN Quotes
...It turns out that they have been applying for World patents which is done in a European based agency. All the companies involved have agreed to certain rules. However, they have filed separately in the U.S. to have coverage in the U.S. specifically.
I am sure that no U.S. patent is currently issued to SC Manley...
Here is a description of claims.

Abstract (Basic): WO 9806932 A
The engine (200) has a rotor assembly (216) supported in a housing (210) for rotation about a longitudinal axis (217). The housing has two spaced apart end plates (212,213). The axis is the axis of rotation of an output shaft (218) operatively connected at one end to the rotor assembly. The other end is free and passes through an aperture in one of the end plates. The rotor assembly includes a number of pistons (231-238) mounted for reciprocating movement in respective cylinders (228) arranged in spaced relation around the longitudinal axis. A cam follower (254) is operatively connected to each piston and adapted to coact with an undulating cam track member (225) supported around the axis of rotation and between the end plates. A device (215) is provided for conveying combustible fuel to, and for conveying exhaust gases from the operative ends of the cylinders. Cyclical combustion of the fuel in the cylinders imparts reciprocation to the pistons with resultant thrust against the cam track member so as to cause rotation of the rotor assembly and output shaft. The undulating cam track member includes an annular track mounted to a support stem or shaft (219) disposed centrally of it and extending in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The support stem or shaft is supported at one end by the other of the end plates. The axis of the annular cam track member is the axis of rotation of the rotor assembly.
ADVANTAGE - The thrust on the inlet and/or exhaust port seals is reduced. The bottom end of the engine is sealed from top end so that lubricant required for the cam track, cam follower, cylinder walls and other bottom end components is prevented.

The rotary IC engine has pistons mounted for reciprocatory movement in respective cylinders which are arranged in equally-spaced relationship around a longitudinal axis of rotation. The axis is the axis of rotation of an output shaft passing rotatably and sealably through apertures of respective first and second end plates of a housing within which the pistons and cylinders move as part of a rotatable rotor assembly secured to the output shaft.
The pistons are simultaneously movable reciprocably in the cylinders. A cam follower is associated with each piston and coacts with undulating cam track around the housing. Cyclical combustion of fuel in the cylinders imparts reciprocation to the pistons with resultant thrust against the cam track.

Abstract (Basic): WO 9617162 A
The pistons include two sets, each having at least two pistons. The pistons of each set are at opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the rotor assembly, and output shaft and interconnected by piston-connection means so that the pistons of each set move in unison.
The parts are so made and arranged that the piston cam follower means coact with the cam track in a manner ensuring that movement of either set of pistons in their cylinders is in the direction opposite to the direction of movement of the other set of pistons.
The pistons of each set have their piston-connection in the form of a piston mounting plate having an aperture through which the output shaft extends. A number is provided where the piston mounting plate may be drivably connected to the output shaft as part of the rotor assembly while being permitted guided sliding movement in the direction along the axis and output shaft to permit movement of its pistons in their cylinders.
ADVANTAGE - Ensures that maximum efficiency may be obtained using cylinders and pistons of relatively short length, is light in weight, small in size, and consists of minimum number of parts particularly in respect of wearing parts capable of running on petrol or any combustible fuel, but which is particularly suited to slow burning fuels such as diesel and all fuel is burned for maximum economy and reduced exhaust emissions. Other objects and advantages of invention will be hereinafter apparent.
