Immucor and Gamma - Deal in the Works???

Hmmm...

Just thought I would see what was up with Tranfusion Medicine companies in the past while and made the following observations.

On April 1,1998 Gamma announces it has appointed Dominion Biologicals as the exclusive distributor in Canada for its React column technology.

Since Dominion Biologicals is an Immucor company it is somewhat surprising that they would sign a deal with a significant competitor in another marketplace to presumably compete with their own products. What does this say about solid phase technology???

OR....Maybe this is a "where there is smoke there is fire" situation. This seems like a strange occurance unless of course Immucor and Gamma are talking about a much larger deal that would involve a merger, joint venture etc... The higher ups in these companies must be talking... I would bet on it.

Then in May Gamma announces it has been filed with a patent infringement claim by Micro Typing Systems related to the React system. If Immucor and Gamma are talking deal this infingement claim might have put the breaks on.

Would Immucor purchase Gamma for the synergies and economies in the reagent business or to get their paws on the React product. Facts are Immucor is getting their butts kicked by the column technologies...

Comments,

Chip

A deal like this makes sense... Immucor would get another .28 cents in earnings from GAMMA... On top of this then all of Gammas customers would be potential Roysis or ABS2000 buyers. With all things conidered, Blud may see upwards of 1.00 in earnings over the next year... I would think that BLUD then would be a very attractive buyout candidate.

Hello,

Very interesting speculation!

I also see that Gamma is possibly paying a $0.10 dividend. Any acquirer would most likely stop this payment thereby improving eps even more.

Follow this link for a comparison of the two companies....
