Even though analysts are off somewhat more often than not, what you describe as your method of evaluating a stock is pretty similar to theirs - only they have more info at their disposal. And you clearly do use much more than trailing P/E, so whether you call it forward P/E or something else, you're looking at the same data.

I don't doubt that embedded microchips have a bright future. It just seems to me that their cost will have to come down by a factor of 10 before they will be able to compete economically with bar code readers in grocery stores, drug stores, etc. If that happens according to Moore's Law, it will take 5 years - and the bar code industry won't be standing still in the meantime.
