Alao from board, not tech so anybody want to reply?
I am not a member of SI, so I could not respond, but...
They have a bunch of idiots saying that the complexity of a mobile system lies in the network, not in the air interface. They obviousl know NOTHING about digital systems. In IS-95 CDMA technology two key subsystems, the Base Station Transceiver Subsystem, and the Selector Bank Subsystem are the two key components of the entire system. All CDMA processing takes place within three places: The mobile unit, the Cell Site Modem ASIC chip on the BTS, and at the SBS. The SBS primarily handles power control, multicasting, and selecting. The CSM ASIC does all of the IS-95 CDMA functions (spreading, encoding, decoding etc.). Also, the mobile has a Mobile Station Modem (MSM) ASIC which serves the same functions as the CSM ASIC. The BTS and Mobile do all the air interface functions, The rest is typical network stuff with the exception of timing. Please, anyone, cross post this on SI so those people don't think for one minute that the network is the complex part, Mobile Networks have been done for 20 years, CDMA stuff for far fewer in the commercial market. And yes, Qualcomm owns almost all the patents on the air interface.
