I agree that gas and oil tend to move in tandem. But if you look at any longterm projection, the price of gas WILL rise significantly over the next 10-20 years or so. This rise will only be more dramatic as more of the majors become more interested in GTL (gas-to-liquid) technology. For those not informed GTL will suddenly make stranded reserves (like some of those in backwoods WV) worth a great deal since oil corporations can convert the gas to higher priced liquids (including diesel fuel). I would refer interested parties to RNTK and SLHO for a more detailed discussion of this technology and its impact on NG prices.

No real information on longterm outlook for coal. I think the point of this discussion should be that ME is doing the right thing by acquiring rights and properties at low commodity prices for a longer term profit.
