But John,
I don't think that your way is ever going to happen. Look at how many times people have BEGGED others to ignore the naysayers...and never has it ever been complied with. In fact, I kind of think that all the exhortations to ignore them only serve to egg them on.
And when they are insulted....same result.
Eric's way, IMO, is the only way to go. Answer the question politely and with facts. As many times as it takes.
I know that on DGIV, when a potential basher came on board, Bryon would absolutely OVERWHELM them with facts....and links....and they were left with not too much else to say. Had Byron insulted them, or ignored them, I think they would probably still be there.
HOWEVER, when a person is not asking a question about the company...for example if a person simply posts a link that you know he/she hopes to use to inflame....as a person tried to do on DGIV this morning.....then your way is the only way...to totally ignore the irritant. That's what we did on DGIV this morning, and I was SO PROUD of us!!!! We didn't even have to talk about it, we just did it.
To RECAP: If a person (even a basher) is asking a question about the company....answer it politely and with facts.
If a person is simply trying to inflame people with non-company related issues.....ignore them.
That's my opinion, anyway.
One thing is for sure, I have really been enjoying reading the ICVI thread this morning. Especially Gorton's posts about the coming deregulation of the electric companies. I've also thoroughly enjoyed the discussion about low-sulfur coal and the methods that have been found to lower the sulfur content in Eastern coal.
