Named at SUPERCOMM '98 The first annual SUPERQuest Awards, established this year to recognize outstanding achievements in the implementation of network technology, were presented last night by CMP Media's tele.com and InternetWeek publications together with SUPERCOMM. Organizations were recognized in 10 categories and two special citations were made at a gala ceremony as part of the SUPERCOMM '98 conference and exhibition being held here.
SUPERQuest Award winners are: Category Winner Local Access Third-Rail Wireless Services Inc., Nashua, N.H. New Competitive Local Networks WinStar Communications Inc., Falls Church, Va. Operations Support Systems Lockheed Martin Corp., Chicago, Ill. Backbone Bandwidth Williams Network, Tulsa, Okla. Wireless (Mobile) Networks INFONXX, Bethlehem, Pa. IP Telephony IDT Corp., Hackensack, N.J. Enterprise Switching and Routing U.S. Army National Guard, Vienna, Va. Remote Access FUNDEM, Merida, Venezuela Network and Systems Management Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz. Network Security Copell Police Department, Copell, Texas In addition, the SUPERQuest Awards recognize the partners--vendors, technologies and consultants--that supported the winning projects.
There were two SUPERQuest Catalyst Awards that recognized special achievements. Bernard J. Ebbers, Chief Executive Officer of WorldCom, Jackson, Miss., won the Leadership Award for having most advanced business or technology across the entire networking market during the past year. VocalTec Gatekeeper(tm), from VocalTec Communications, Ltd., Northvale, N.J., was named the most promising new technology introduced at SUPERCOMM '98.
