Sony's HiFi manufacturing and sales partner, Teac, presently churns out about 95 million floppy drives a year. The intial cost to churn out HiFi drives will be much lower than what Iomaniacs think because a lot of the manufacturing capability is already immediately at hand. In addition, the presently weak Japanese Yen can only serve further to put more $$$ in Sony's pocket through American sales. To get a little glimpse of Teac's verstility, click here:

Rest assured, even though Sony is huge by itself, it is not going about this alone. Unlike Iomega, whose greed is going to ultimately cost them their goal of floppy replacement.
