I think it could be argued that the Bre-x fiasco was the trigger event which set off the global bear market in Asia, with the ripples emanating from Indonesia, and spreading to the rest of the world. I guess Walsh was the "butterfly" which set off the global chaos. Not only was he a moron and a crook, but he ruined many people's retirement dreams. I gag at the sycophantic comments from some on this list to his family - gee I just got ripped off - I'd better kiss their _ss. Have a nice eternity dave - the gold is there, but you sure aren't.
