Joe, Re: " I do, but what is your take for the CURRENT quarter ?"
This quarter? I think it will be close, wouldn't be surprised if it's down a few cents from estimates. I think the conference call will be more important, although most of those sound like they're coming from a man with a blindfold on who's smoking a cigarette. Very conservative company looking forward. Still, if 3Q looks like it's going to be sequentially up 5 to 8%, numbers I've heard, and Intel says something like this, that ain't bad. In 4Q, the Xeon chips should be in full production. I know that all the major server companies are going to be all over this one like white on rice. It's about twice as fast as the Pentium Pro, which has been selling well also. Mendocino due 9/13, just in time for Christmas boxes.
As for Intel cutting prices, they do this all the time, at least once a quarter. Yield improvement of PII on 0.25 micron process, I've read, is ahead of schedule, so lower the price, still make money and cut off the competition at the knees, or higher (where Celeron is supposedly lacking, anatomically speaking).
