Viagra treats a non life threatening problem (and to some Puritans, an unimportant one) so there will probably be less tolerance for imperfection than there would be for a treatment for a classical disease. If I am not mistaken, polio vaccine actually induces the disease in some measurable portion of those inoculated, but no one has suggested it be withdrawn. But if negative publicity continues for this ED treatment, the FDA might force Pfizer to withdraw Viagra to avoid a PR disaster.

Drug interaction with Viagra seems to be surprisingly undefined. The original publicity stated that Viagra was effective against ED related to high blood pressure medications. But recent news stories have intimated that interactions with hytrin and zestril, two fairly common hypertension treatments, may have been responsible for several of the 16 "Viagra deaths". I'd appreciate any expert comments on these interactions, since I take both.

I'd like to see Pfizer publicly address these issues. It's not enough that Viagra hasn't been proven guilty; neither was OJ, but not many people figure he's innocent.
