Sony financially weak? Yeah, right.

biz.yahoo.com

"The Sony group enjoys a prominent position in consumer and professional audiovisual products and home video game systems, as well as in the music industry. The company has a good product mix, with a strategic focus on digital products. This mix is broadly reinforced by an excellent brand image. For the fiscal year ended March 1998, Sony posted its fifth consecutive increase in consolidated operating income before depreciation, which rose to Y822 billion (US$6.2 billion at Y132 to US$1). This figure represented 12.2% of total sales for the year of Y6.8 trillion. "

"Despite a slowdown in earnings growth--mainly a factor of economic weakness throughout Asia including Japan--Sony should be able to maintain its current strong financial profile. The company has ample cash flow to cover the capital expenditures needed to preserve and strengthen its competitiveness, Standard & Poor's said. -- CreditWire "

Sony is poised financially to crush Iomega. Sony is also perfectly poised in the market to crush Iomega.

Just think, if every Sony Playstation box comes with a rebate coupon inside good for $30 off the purchase of a Sony HiFi drive. And, think if Sony is able to integrate the 200MB HiFi drive into the Playstation line, just like Nintendo is planning to release a 64MB floppy drive of their own. The possibilites are endless.

Iomega? Left out in the dark.
