if i may respond, according to the lehman bro's report dated may 27 (previously linked by jeff):

"[W]e believe that while sales were driven by robust growth in the US and Europe all of Comverse's primary regions were above expectations set at the outset of the year including Asia. Investors may be encouraged that Asia as a whole accounted for around 18% of total sales versus approximately 25% in 1997. We maintain that the strong revenue growth numbers may go along way towards allaying investor concerns over both the potential impact of the merger with Boston and economic turbulence is South East Asia (7% of FY97 sales)."
