Just got some news from Supercomm-nothing suprising, but some additional tidbits that someone (bill c., trey, etc...)may be able to assimilate into the larger picture:

1.) Bellsouth is going with a complete Alcatel, end-to-end. When asked to check out their technology (bellsouth) they direct you to the Alcatel booth.

2.) Alcatel has a DMT chip that is being mass produced and being sent to customers in quantity NOW

3.) Both MOT and TXN will not be mass producing chips until the end of 98 early 99, they are still having the power consumption problems

4.) Pairgain also has a their chip (Falcon) ready to go and are shipping them to Rockwell NOW

5.) When WSTL was asked about the BA deal and the pending DSC buyout they did not forsee a threat at least in the near term (2 years)

6.) In addition, WSTL will be shipping CAP modems in the thousands, nothing even close to the potential 2 million lines for 98

7.) ADI does have chips ready and this looks to be a source for WSTl in the near term

8.) Representative from Bellsouth said to his knowledge the rest of JPC will also be sticking with Alcatel

9.) WSTL recognized all their eggs were in the telco basket and confirmed they will be targeting ISPs directly

I'm sure most of this info has been transcribed on this thread in one form or another, but I wanted to reiterate from the horses' mouths.

The question is Alcatel, with Bellsouth going with a complete solution how does this bode for Lucent, will they be looking for the ADSL component to fit into their complete package?

Who else is buying Pair's chips? Rockwell is going to focus on the comsumer (Best Buy, Computer City, etc...)

WSTL needs to win a large DMT contract, BA-the street's dismal response to the intial CAP BA contract was because it is perceived as one step up from another trial in terms of deployment numbers

Overall things looked stagnant with not much happening until chips are ready-things will be slow until 99 I'm afraid- FWIW jeremic
