Del, my understanding of the fundamentalists and Jews is that there are two distinct camps. If you look on the militia/white supremacist web pages, you will find lots of anti-semitism, coming from a very Christian perspective. The Christian right which supports the Zionists in Israel are, as you said, basing their support on fulfilling prophesies. Hal Lindsey's followers would fall into this camp. Are you familiar with him?
As you probably know, a Baptist church from Kansas came all the way out to San Francisco a couple of weeks ago and picketed our local gay and lesbian church. This was a letter a local resident--apparently a Christian from some of his comments, but not from the far right--wrote in today's San Francisco Chronicle. I will leave his name off to protect his privacy and safety:

This is really close to my own opinion. You only have to visit the Ask God thread and FEEL the hatred and bigotry and intolerance that are sometimes expressed there by people who think everyone who does not share their exact belief systems is SATANIC, to at least ponder where evil really comes from. |
