Look at the source of the comments regarding the "two horse race". Publicly ignoring and downplaying a serious competitor is a marketing tactic that both IBM and MSFT are playing.

The point they dont mention in the article is that currently its Groupwise that is behind Notes and it is Groupwise that is in front of Exchange in marketshare.

But, it is an effective marketing tactic because there are a ton of IT decision makers out there that fall for stupid marketing tricks (these are the same decision makers that keep putting their money down on the "Shell and Pea" game and believe its not rigged). So why wouldnt IBM and MSFT play the game? It works.
