(IBM)

IBM chips are primarily consumed internally. I dont see companies
going to IBM to supply their ASICs. Nor does IBM have the sales,
distribution channel for chips that LSI has. The only real
competition IBM is for LSI would be inside IBM.

IBM design flows use a lot of internal IBM developed tools
that are targetted to their technology libraries,
where as an LSI uses mostly 3rd party tools which its
customers are more familiar with. Im not sure you would
find many customers will to spend the time to learn the
IBM tool flow.

Also IBM could be considered a competitor to many companies that
would need ASICs and also companies supplying IP to LSI.
So I would state that LSI is in a much better position than
IBM on both getting IP and getting biz from customers needing
SoC solutions. I myself am not worried about any money IBM
would throw at this....
