Jimsy,

Repeating an earlier observation of mine, De Beers is more in the business of keeping diamonds OFF the market than in getting them
TO the market. They are never in a rush to develop new projects
and have a special interest in discouraging those of other miners.

Further, they want to encourage the sales of their NEW stones coming to market and discourage resales (i.e. what is called estate jewelry).
This is why one might say of them, "A diamond is forever" OFF THE MARKET once sold.

They are not in this Marsfontein dispute for any other purpose than
to hamper SUF's ability to get stones out of the ground (anyplace on the African continent or beyond) and off to market via any other means than the CSO, if at all. Viewed in this light we can have a better understanding that fair play has no place in their negotiations.
