We could be near the end of the tunnel and may see light soon. My wild-ass guess is that the trend will remain down to sideways for the next couple of weeks with greater divergence between stocks reporting earnings concerns and those that more look forward to a good fall/winter. I predict a favorable but mild July 4th rally - starting the last week in June and going through the 1st week in July. Then we will be waiting for earnings news to hit. My guess on that is that most of the pre-announcements will have taken place by next week, Companies that expect to come in at or above estimates tend not to pre-announce so when the actual numbers are reported starting in July, they should not look as bad as has already been discounted in the stock prices for semis and some other battered sectors. If the forward looking statements are better than the doom and gloom expectations now in the market, then we will get a summer rally as investors look toward back-to-school/Christmas/winter buying season and further into 1999.

Who knows when the bottom will be hit? I think over the next four to 8 weeks is a great time to buy tech stocks and cyclicals such as oil service and specialty manufacturers and retailers. By mid 1999 it will become a very good period to be heavily invested in semis and some semi equips.
