Doug,

Re ema scans, I ran a scan on DBRN and created a report of
the resulting values to see exactly what is happening.
Set MACD to 5,34,5 and a dummy condition of close(0)>0.
In second scan I changed the condition to close(-125)>0.
The results are as follows with DJMA+ included for reference.

close(0)>0 close(-125)>0 DJMA+

11/22/96 MACD 1.47704 1.28271 1.26
MACD Signal 1.4572 1.23663 1.23

11/21/96 MACD 1.43756 1.23108 1.22
MACD Signal 1.44398 1.20317 1.22

Number of days used 41 126 unknown

The close(0) and DJMA+ both show that a cross over occurred
while the scan using 126 days does not. If the number of days
is increased to 250 a slight additional decrease in values
occurs but does not change result. I believe that the cross
is correct and wanted this stock selected in the group for
further review.

This clearly shows that including a condition in a scan that
uses a longer period than the ema's will alter the results.
By running sequential scans where the output of the first is
the input for the second and where the long period conditions
are included in the first and only the conditions using
shorter ema's are in the second, you will get results which
differ from a combined scan due to the number of days used.
I agree, this should not happen but I guess we will have to
live with it until the next version of QP is released.

Enough on the ema's - need to pick the winners for tomorrow
but that's another scan.

Bob

ps Sorry about this message but I can not get the cols to line up.
