RESEARCH ALERT - Computer chip capital spending
Thursday June 11, 10:01 am Eastern Time

NEW YORK, June 11 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley analyst Jay Deahna said Thursday that 1998 semiconductor capital spending would decline more steeply than he previously forecast, based on much lower-than-expected utilization rates in the semiconductor industry.

His latest forecast was for a spending decline of 20-to-22 percent. His previous forecast had been a decline of between 12 and 14 percent, Morgan Stanley said. May book-to-bill data for the industry is slated to be released June 16.
