A new Office for the Web
Microsoft Corp. may not have been an early fan of the Web, but it is quickly making up for lost time, even extending the next version of its flagship Office suite software "beyond the desktop" to take advantage of Internet technology....

..."It's a huge change for us," Dixon says. "We're betting on HTML as a native file format for the next version of Office."

Currently in alpha, with a beta planned for this summer, Office 9.x will become a two-way communications platform, allowing users to share documents and collaborate with others in a Web-based environment. Using integrated comments and notes, saved in a separate file, Office lets users work together on a document, seeing the changes as they happen
