Barry, I thought your #5728 was very well said, however, I would like to add. The perception of assured *forward* compatibity is almost of equal importance to the PC consummer, as is the certainty of backward compatibity. The PC user must be assured that any deviation he may make from the mainstream today, will be adequately supported in the future. Therefore, if this observation is correct, then it assures that Intel, and only Intel, will have ample time to react to any contemplated paradigme shift, which may, or may not, come to the PC industry in the future.
