Mulu Michael Elected President of OptimumCare; She Also Joins Board of Directors

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--June 3, 1998-- OptimumCare Corp. (OTC:BB-OPMC) Wednesday announced that its Board of Directors has elected Mulu G. Michael as its president.

She was also elected a Board member, and continues in her role as chief operating officer.

"The Board and I both believe the majority of my time should be focused on the strategic growth of this company and maximizing shareholder value," said Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Edward A. Johnson. "This appointment underscores the fact that Mulu Michael has been handling all day-to-day operations of the company for over a year."

As president & COO of OptimumCare, Michael manages a staff of more than 200 highly trained behavioral healthcare providers. They include medical directors, psychologists, therapists, program administrators and highly skilled nurses, all of whom staff the company's 10 contracted behavioral healthcare programs.

"One of the reasons the Board felt very confident in promoting Mulu to this level is her impressive track record," Johnson said. "She puts very strong emphasis on training and motivating managers, as well as integrating procedures and budgets to maximize our profitability and growth."

Michael joined OptimumCare in 1994 as a Program Administrator. In 1997 she was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Her extensive experience as both a registered nurse and in behavioral healthcare management over a 16-year career has been focused on delivering the highest quality patient care.

Michael completed a four-year nursing school curriculum that led to her becoming a licensed nurse in three countries: America, Canada and Ethiopia. She also completed a three-year advanced hospital management program with the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Canada. In addition, she has completed numerous business management and finance courses and extensive seminars in behavioral health services.

Created in 1987 to respond to opportunities presented by increasing utilization of behavioral health services, OptimumCare provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services through a network of affiliated hospitals, medical centers and community health centers.
