Steve & Intel Investors - Brian Halla, NSM CEO, stated in their Earnings Conference call today that Taiwan PC board manufacturers were designing 90% of their new Mother boards for Slot 1 devices.

The Taiwanese stated, according to Halla, that they did not think AMD, IDT, Cyrix, etc. could support the Socket 7 CPU volume requirements if Intel pulled out completely.

Halla may have qualified the "90%" number, referring to motherboards destined for PCs costing >$1000.

This information was obtained by Halla on a very recent trip to Taiwan where he met with quite a few PC Motherboard manufacturers.

The NSM conference call replay can be heard at:

Note - if there is a shred of truth to the 90% Slot 1 for new PC Motherboard Designs, Intel's CPU sales may be facing less competition as they convert more production to SLot 1 and Slot 2 devices.
