Central bank selling and buying of gold is not significant. Same with producer. It causes the market to swing a little maybe for as long as a month, but that's not a trend. What makes a meaningful uptrend in gold is inflationary expectations. Everything else is boring commodity market random walk.

The Japanese have traditionally been big buyers of platinum and gold. It's hard to separate out the speculative from the jewelry buying. I would say that it's too early for the former, but you could validly argue that fear also drives movement into gold or platinum.
