UniComp Announces Shipment of INT0 2000 / COBOL
MARIETTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1998--UniComp Inc. (NASDAQ:UCMP - news) today announced it has started shipping INTO 2000 / COBOL, a new client/server Year 2000 toolset designed to analyze AS/400 applications written in COBOL/400 and automatically convert date fields to Year 2000 compliant formats.
Developed by UniComp and based on the INTO 2000 / RPG product, which has processed over one-billion lines of RPG code, INTO 2000 / COBOL uses proven COBOL compiler technology from the UNIBOL400 product to fully interpret COBOL programs and generate the most thorough analysis and powerful rebuild capability available today. INTO 2000 / COBOL reduces the COBOL program to a complex graph and uses a sophisticated recursive algorithm to isolate date dependencies. This approach ensures that virtually no date fields are missed and spurious output minimized.
INTO 2000 / COBOL is being sold through the worldwide network of INTO 2000 resellers who will market the product to Fortune 2000 companies which downsized their mainframe COBOL applications to departmental functions on the IBM AS/400. Most COBOL applications are critical applications and consequently these Fortune companies are serious about fixing these applications.
According to Stephen A. Hafer, president and CEO of UniComp, ''INTO 2000 / RPG is the only complete client/server tool set which addresses Year 2000 problems in AS/400 RPG applications and is the most widely installed Year 2000 toolset in the AS/400 market. This development by UniComp extends the market opportunity for the product to the large number of applications written in COBOL as well.''
