Craig,

IMHO, CPQ made the steal of the century. They say the reason was for
DEC's services division, but I personally believe it was to get a lock
on Alpha. Only time will tell.

The reasons I think DEC was stolen:

1. At DEC's final trade price of 56 11/16 the P/E was 16.24 or less
than half the industry average.

2. Compaq stuffed the channels in Q4 of 97 because they knew the
financials for that quarter would be the one's used to determine
the (supposed) fair purchase price.

3. Merced delayed again making Alpha even more valuable...and IMO
Compaq (being Intel's biggest customer) had to know the delay
was coming (and they probably know already about the next ones).

Honestly, I believe this merger is going to be great for both
companies. And yes, I am bitter that my years of investment in
DIGITAL were not properly rewarded.
