There is a floor for disk drives... and I don't believe that they can become as cheap as either floppy drives or CD-rom drives without some kind of new innovation... The configuration with a single platter is the lowest common denominator. The market price for recent designs in this arena tell a lot about what can be produced profitably... If it cannot be produced profitably then it is not sustainable, but simply a fire sale... and those must go away eventually.
