David, I recommend that you stop selling short and use long puts in some sort of disciplined system. I use a 90/10 system which I described in detail in my article for The Internet Financial Connection on SI last August. It is still in the IFC archives.

The problem with short selling is one you have already discovered. Overpriced fluff can sometimes become more overpriced fluff. With puts, you may kick yourself for being long while the premium disappears, but the 90/10 program allows you to reload and fight another day.

I feel for you, man. Been there, done that.
