"do the non-insider chemists and scientists of the world have any upfront means of obtaining results of these studies through scientific journals etc," Generally, conferences such as these are used to disclose results that have not previously been published, or perhaps are in press. At most conferences, it is a requirement that talks or posters be about non-published new work. One exception: review-type talks. That's one reason why reporters hang out at conferences and don't subscribe to scientific journals. My understanding is that AGPH will be well-represented at the AIDS conference, but that no ground-breaking news is coming.
