Hmmm. A book written by 2 people with person vendettas against MS doesn't paint a rosy picture? I'm shocked.
Well, those two are backed by literally thousands of others, including myself. I have no personal vendetta, but in all my years of working in the software industry, I have met more programmers who hate microsoft, and will never work there again, than any other company... in total numbers and as a percentage of ex-microsofties I know.
Rudedog probably liked it, but he was higher up in the bill-factors than most people.
I, personally, was defrauded out of about $40,000 in compensation, not counting the stock options that, under the law, I should have gotten, in my opinion. (There was a recent court case about this issue, so I should say "according to a recent interpretation of the law by a judge", it is being appealed, of course.)
And that's just the monetary stuff. When I tried to leave, I was subjected to psychological pressure of an intensity and type that I've only heard about in one other place-- a bood I read on cults.
To some extent, I blame myself- I had heard the stories, and I went there anyway. (Really funny how you haven't heard these stories. Maybe you don't know any ex-microserfs.) I really should have left right away.
