The recession question is an interesting one........which I think you've left out a few points which could be made....which are...further rounds of devaluation in currencies including finally China, influence of russian economics spreading to eastern europe and then western europe, stagnation of the oil dependent economies..i.e. latin america, IT budgets re focused to the y2k and euro conversion problems in place of traditional spending on system sofware and hardware, changes in the employment and investment return picture in the usa along with increasing trade gaps, unplanned spending by the us gov to address its own lagging y2k issue, and an increase in safe haven investing which would not include equities....not to mention the increasing inversion of the yield curve between short and mid range securities taking place now......a predictive indicator of many past recessions....which have occured in the months following such an inversion......... Seems to me, recession is far more likely than unlikely short of a world wide miracle......
