Now you have me going here.... global warming.

I am required by state law to bring my vehicles in for periodic emission testing. No problem as they are well within state specified legal parameters as they are tuned, maintained, etc. Yet it never ceases to amaze me how many times I'll be stuck in traffic behind some dilapidated car that belches grey exhaust smoke that could kill King Kong. Where's the law when it comes time for shutting those guys down?

Then of course there are the diesel truck rigs, tractor trailers, concrete trucks, waste haulers, etc... there smoke stacks and emissions look like the mushroom cloud at Hiroshima when they pull away from a red light. Yet I hear (read) that bovine flatulence is in large part responsible for global warming. Ha Ha...no one ever wants to admit that they are responsible for the stinky fart that everyone else is required to endure.

What ever happened to the pollution permits that industry was supposed to purchase? From an Economic view point they seemed to be a cost effective way of dealing with certain forms of industrial pollutants. (one has to pay for a permit in order to pollute... and the permits are freely saleable on the open free markets. Without the permits, the polluting companies could face fines beyond the meager ones that they happily pay.

Imagine what we have done in only about one-hundred years of industrial pollution Environmental clean up will out of necessity become an even HUGER business. Clinton announced news today on extending the ban on off-shore oil drilling this morning. The ocean reefs are dying off as is the ocean flora and fauna. Bury this and bury that and let someone else take care of it. Yikes... thank God there are environmentally conscious companies. There are also some mutual funds that only invest in environmentally conscientous companies. I hope that BUGS will one day meet the fund managers criteria for inclusion into those funds.
