Ramsey, I know nothing about the Y2K problem here in Asia, except to say that I think the region has had its attention focused on other things in the last 6 months, and so perhaps has not been diligent enough about it. There was a TV news story about it (a month ago) and it seems that smaller firms simply do not now have the money to upgrade solutions. Billing etc., will be done manually for a while.

As far as an RTC solution for the Japanese banking sector, not without participation from solid Western banks. There simply are not enough healthy banks left in Japan to absorb the ones on the verge of going under, and I doubt seriously whether Western banks will want to participate without real reform/deregulation that allows them to win market share on a competitive basis. I think the Japanese banking sector wants to avoid this at all costs, because if it happened, the amount of market share they would lose is truly enormous. Their service record is very poor, and their investment performance record is the worst ever.

jess.
