Powerhouse Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) reported at about the same time as Starbucks that it viewed the economic turmoil in Asia as a "short-term situation" and that recent events had not changed the soft-drink giant's optimistic outlook for the region.

With roughly 70% share of the carbonated drink market and an October Gallup poll reporting that 8 out of 10 of China's 1.2 billion inhabitants recognize the Coke brand, investment decisions are easier for Coke than most other players.
