Speaking of satellites and Hong Kong, in the Fall of 1991 I was offered SVP Sales and Marketing for Star TV, then a start-up within Hutchison Whampoa. We came over there, met some great people including Li himself, but my wife decided she didn't want to live in Hong Kong. One of the nights that week the folks at Morgan Stanley invited us to dinner at the American Club in Central (some view!), and I met Roger McNamee who was swinging through Taiwan and Hong Kong pitching investors for his new hedge fund. He has since become a guru of sorts. It was quite a trip. I will never forget it. BTW, what's black rain?
